On September 12th, 2008, Dave 'DJ' Schalton's therapist recommended that he contact Jacques Thomas who was, at the time, an aspiring cable television personality in the DC metro area to discuss the idea of forming an original music band. Jacques was purported to have an uncanny ability to see into the heart of certain matters.
When Dave approached Jacques with the idea (presented, as it was, with a minimum of drama and fuss on a dark side-street in Silver Spring, Md), Jacques immediately saw the enormous potential of the situation and assured Dave that: “I'll do anything you want man, just put down the gun”. And so it came to be that, Jacques and Dave, armed with the certainty of conviction (primarily
because of Dave's unregistered gun – but there were other reasons too) went in search of others to victimize.
And so, as it has always been in the formative stage of all truly great bands, Dave: armed with his vintage Flash Gordon ray-gun and Jacques, wearing the X-ray specs he had ordered from the back-page of a comic book: began to lurk menacingly in the shadows of the parking lot at the Dale City VRE station waiting to find and prey upon any man or woman who had a facile dexterity with keys.
While there where many close calls and near misses: they knew as soon as they saw him that
Ralph Puckett was their man.
When they first approached Ralph, he was standing there bathed in the orange glow of the parking lot's crime lights with his keys clenched in one hand and what looked to be a briefcase in the other. Looking for all the world like a man ready to fight (or just find his car and go home), his first words to Dave and Jacques were: “You punks feelin' lucky?” This created a certain amount of tension among the group, exacerbated by the fact that no one could recall the next line of dialog. It was only after Dave assured Ralph that they were, in fact, feeling very lucky that Ralph volunteered to accompany them to the nearby QuikMart to go in on the purchase of a lotto ticket.
As unlikely as it might seem, it was soon discovered that Ralph's incredible dexterity with car and house keys transferred easily to the keys of pianos, synthesizers and organ, prompting the duo to immediately invite Ralph to join them in the capacity of back-stage security or keyboardist, whichever he preferred.
Otherwise Ralph could be in that parking lot to this day looking for his car.
And that's why the band is called Luck's Radio.
The rest, as they say, is history.
